La Agencia de Cooperación para la Seguridad y Defensa de Estado Unidos confirmó a través de un comunicado que “el Departamento de Estado ha tomado la decisión de aprobar una posible venta militar extranjera al gobierno de Chile de equipos y servicios relacionados para la modernización de F-16 por un costo estimado de 634.70 millones de dólares”.
Pese a la validación técnica, desde el Ministerio de Defensa de Chile aseguraron que el plan fue postergado desde inicio de año debido a la emergencia sanitaria y la necesidad de destinar recursos a otras áreas más urgentes.
