Eduardo Artés no sigue moldes. Profesor, dirigente y militante histórico de la izquierda chilena, se ha definido siempre “a su manera”, incómodo con los eufemismos, reacio a los encasillamientos. En su carrera ha tenido episodios tan singulares como su viaje a Corea del Norte en 2013, donde defendió la estructura del régimen por “no tener intereses contradictorios”, o su polémica discusión con una mujer venezolana frente a la embajada de Venezuela en 2019, transmitida en televisión. Aun así, Artés continúa apareciendo en las papeletas, siempre desde la convicción de que su lucha es contra el neoliberalismo “de todos los colores”.
El camino del profe
Eduardo Antonio Artés Brichetti nació el 25 de octubre de 1951 en El Tambo, comuna de San Vicente de Tagua Tagua, Región de O’Higgins. Es hijo de Eduardo Artés Urbina, trabajador metalúrgico, y Teresa Elena Brichetti Crovetto, de ascendencia italiana, quien falleció cuando él tenía apenas un año. Su abuelo paterno, Alfonso Artés Roselló, fue un anarquista catalán que luego abrazó el comunismo, marcando la raíz ideológica de la familia.
A los 14 años, Artés se trasladó a Santiago, donde trabajó junto a su padre en la metalurgia mientras estudiaba en el Liceo Nocturno técnico-industrial N°5. En septiembre de este año, en el debate presidencial organizado por CHV, recordó con orgullo haber cursado su enseñanza media mientras trabajaba, subrayando que fue «un obrero que estudió de noche». Durante esa etapa fue dirigente estudiantil y comenzó su militancia en el Partido Comunista Revolucionario (PCR).
Estudió Pedagogía en Historia en la Escuela Normal Abelardo Núñez, institución que tras el golpe de Estado de 1973 se incorporó a la Universidad Técnica del Estado (UTE). Su carrera docente se desarrolló principalmente en Cerro Navia, donde ejerció durante 31 años como profesor de enseñanza básica en la Escuela Bernardo Núñez. Se casó cuando tenía 20 años y se separó a los 35. Tiene dos hijas y un nieto. Vive en Maipú, con quien es su pareja de hace tres décadas.
A la izquierda de la izquierda
En 1979, en plena dictadura militar, Artés fundó junto a exmilitantes del PCR el Partido Comunista – Acción Proletaria (PC-AP), una organización marxista-leninista cuyo objetivo era mantener viva la ortodoxia comunista frente a lo que consideraban una desviación del PC tradicional. En 2015 fundó Unión Patriótica (UPA), colectividad con la que se presentó como candidato presidencial en 2017 y 2021, y actualmente (2025) postula de manera independiente.
Frases para el bronce
Aunque no ha logrado consolidar un proyecto político en las urnas, en cada aventura presidencial se ha hecho notar con frases salidas de libreto. Aquí, algunas:

Las propuestas de gobierno
A lo largo de sus tres campañas presidenciales, Artés ha presentado programas que comparten una misma raíz: refundar Chile. En 2025 propone:
• Sustituir el Congreso Nacional por una Asamblea Popular Nacional.
• Reinstaurar la pena de muerte en casos graves (violación de menores, narcotráfico).
• Reducción de la jornada laboral a 35 horas semanales.
• Suprimir el sistema de capitalización individual y retomar el sistema de
pensiones basado en el aporte solidario
• Reforma tributaria progresiva.
• Políticas de protección a la infancia: medio litro de leche diario, educación ética y familiar.
• Estado plurinacional con reconocimiento de pueblos originarios.
• Nacionalización de empresas estratégicas y control estatal.
Parándose a la izquierda de la izquierda, con tono desenfadado, Artés se ha convertido en «el distinto», en una papeleta de ocho, donde los otros siete han tenido cargos de alta exposición pública. Las encuestas no le auguran un paso a segunda vuelta y sus dos campañas anteriores, donde sacó el 0,51% y el 1,47% no hacen pensar en sorpresas. A pesar de los números, cada vez que alguien insinúa que la suya es una campaña testimonial, lo niega en forma rotunda, aunque sin responder qué proyecto político sigue el 17 de noviembre. Así, fiel a su estilo, a su manera.
